See ya, September. It’s been a slice.

Top of the evening to our faithful blog-stalkers.  Thanks for dropping in… we do appreciate it!   September has been life-changing in so many ways; but at the risk of over-sharing we’ll keep much of that insight private.  What a whirlwind, though:  {Weddings, funerals, power outages, tree felling, road trips to the ‘Bury, bus trips to [...]

September has been life-changing in so many ways; but at the risk of over-sharing we’ll keep much of that insight private.  What a whirlwind, though:  {Weddings, funerals, power outages, tree felling, road trips to the ‘Bury, bus trips to the Alberta Oil Sands, consultations with overseas gurus, new client bookings, school starting, surprise 60th birthday celebrating, reflecting, learning, growing, adapting.} I’d say that’s plenty for one month, wouldn’t you?

Alvi took the girls home to Sudbury recently and we are finally getting a chance to view some of the shots he captured along the way.  I love that in spite of the 11-hour car ride with 2 young children in tow, he opted to make the journey top priority as opposed to just the destination. These photographs were taken along the shores of Lake Superior as Saffron and Piper spent an hour collecting rocks and learning about the beautiful world we live in.  Oh and couldn’t resist throwing in a few pics from the Plavins’ house on the lake.  While these pictures may not interest you, we are succumbing to massive pressure from family members on the West Coast, in Honduras, Great Britain and the Middle East.

People:  we surrender already.  Enjoy!

It was September 12th, 2009.  Thunder Bay gave us a wicked mixed bag of weather: sun, fog, rain, clouds, wind.  This was to be the cherished wedding day for Matt + Kim… the highly anticipated event of September!  And in keeping with the style of their engagement shots, we strategized a photo session that would reprise a similar look and feel.  They even incorporated yellow and green umbrellas to compliment the yellow and green t-shirts they wore the day of their e-session; and though we could not return to the YMCA fire escape for the building shots <thank you, city of Thunder Bay for demolishing this urban icon>, we were able to find a suitable replacement.  So cool <we love continuity!>.

The Bliss crew also whisked them away to the old Holsum Bakery building on Algoma where, coincidentally, both the bride, her brother and cousin had enjoyed many shifts in their past employment lives <to be clear, they didn’t bake bread.  But it was in that historical building they had worked!  Hey…  It’s important to clarify!>  Too funny… this fact we learned only on site the day of.

Kim + Matt, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for choosing us to represent you.  Your love is infectious.  Your engaging personalities are present in the hundreds of shots we captured.  Hope you enjoy this wee sneak peak.  xo  <Alvi + Sam>

Hello world!  What a fantastically, beautiful weekend.  It’s been crazy busy here at Bliss but we wouldn’t have it any other way.  This will likely be our most succinct post as the laundry list of client To Do’s is getting out of control.  So we shall be brief and skip right away to the good stuff!

Please enjoy the sneak peek at Jason + Melissa’s engagement session shot about a week ago or so.  We look forward to getting to know this couple more over the next year as they prepare to take that giant leap into wedded Bliss in 2010.  J+M = TTLF <see if you can figure that one out.  I know, it’s so grade 8, but love is in the air!!>

A thick, erie fog hovered over Thunder Bay like a layer of bedding the morning of September 5th.  And yet the promise of something incredible could be felt in the negative ions that lingered above.

It was Robyn + Steve’s wedding day!  We could not have cast better weather if we had ordered it ourselves.  It was perfect.  Simply, perfect.  This day was going to be unique in every sense of the word.  Let’s go back to the beginning to really shed light on this couple.

I’ve known Robyn since grade nine at good ol’ FWCI.  Yup.  We were Blue Bears together <groan>.  And although we both agree that highschool was way overrated, some definite poignant memories have filled up our yearbooks connected us in a way that only highschool could.  Funnily enough, we lost complete touch after moving on in our respective lives… But thanks to the marvels of social internet-”working” <Facebook, this is your plug!> we found each other after nearly 17 years.

When Robyn + Steve approached us we were both honoured and excited… big time.  These two wanted to do things unconventionally and we were like “yes please!!!”.  To begin, Steve was pysched about the prospect of being photographed alongside he and his dad’s 1936 Ford Coupe — a piece of art they lovingly restored.  <I’ve never seen craftsmanship like this, especially when you compare with the heap it once was!>  Second, they both saw value in having their photo session completed prior to their Fort William Country Club ceremony.

We absolutely love this strategy as it allows us to make better use of the day which = more shots // more authenticity and more fun.  For this to work and to ensure the ultimate in drama, they were darn-near blindfolded until given a cue to turn around and face each other for the first time on their wedding day.  It was emotional and precious and so lovely.  I will never forget it.

Robyn + Steve: your wedding was a highlight of our entire summer.  Every detail carefully woven together had Robyn’s signature style, from the white-paper lanterns on the tables to the hand-made programs to the card box on your guest table.  Mostly, though, the love you have for each other was so transparent.  We are so happy to have reconnected with you; to have met Steve; to share in some good times coming down the pipe!  God bless and thank you for giving us this opportunity.

p.s. Thanks go to Scott for sharing some meaningful and timely insight the day of the wedding.  You have no idea how much it meant, Scott!
