It’s been a dog’s age since we posted anything remotely personal on this blog. And rightfully so, it is meant to showcase our most recent client work. With the holidays upon us, however, and family in all parts of the world these days, we couldn’t resist putting up a few images from our trip home to Sudbury and Ottawa, where we took some time to just live in the present and hang with our girls Piper (7) and Saffron (2). And in case you find yourselves wondering, yes, this is about as typical as it gets with us: no sleds on hand so why not just grab some trusty cardboard and make do?!!

To our family in Guatemala: Mom, Dad, Natasha + Rod + Maple, Jonathan + Shalem…. we miss you a tonne and wish you were here! Say hello to the volcanoes and bring us home some Antigua coffee, please! To our family in the Middle East: Dagmara + John (+ and all our kindred bandmates)… counting the days until you make that requisite journey back home. Though you are so bloody far away (it’s hard to fathom where on earth Oman is!), you are in our hearts and we love you dearly. To our family in Sudbury: Mom, Dad, Inese + Freddy + Cody, Laila + good ol’ Mojo…. thank you for spoiling us rotten, for making numerous feasts fit for kings and for putting up with the yammerings of our little ones.

Life has blessed us in so many ways; but often we find ourselves caught up in the ever infamous pursuit of *more*. We are grateful for our health, for our two loving and mischievous daughters, for our supportive and unwavering families, for friends that love and accept us shortcomings and all and for this career which allows us such an intimate and poignant glimpse into this crazy little thing called *love.*

Happy Holidays to all our clients, former and new; and may 2011 bring you an abundance of your own blessings to count.

xo, Alvis (the man perpetually behind the camera and gratefully never in any of the shots!)

We’re not going to bog this blog down with our usual ooey-gooey, lovey-dovey superlatives… But do not mistake our *less is more approach* as disinterest. Au contraire. We are incredibly excited about working with Lucie + Kevin next October, 2011. We’ll be bringing the Bliss *entourage* down to Sault Ste. Marie for the entire weekend!

About six weeks ago amidst a chaotic week of moving from Sioux Lookout to Blind River, Lucie + Kevin came up to TBay to take advantage of some lucious fall colours and the opportunity for a second Bliss photo shoot {we count this one as their actual engagement session, though you may remember their winter *warm-up* session done last year}. They were hoping for some perfect shots for their Save the Dave cards… and something tells me they’ll have a tough time whittling it down to just one! Enjoy your sneak peek, guys. We wish you all the best of this holiday season and thank you for your patience. p.s. give our best to Mika!

Sometimes you get lucky and everything falls into place. Such was the case for the McCullough family photo shoot {beautiful lighting. beautiful people. need we say more?!} Such was also the case for Kerri-Ann + Scott McCullough who celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary this year. To commemorate the day they describe as *blissful* {ooh…we likie!} they opted for a family photo shoot with a twist… the twist being that we’d spend a significant amount of time documenting them as a couple, too.

This happy-go-lucky pair got engaged Christmas Day in 1997. Kerri-Ann describes Scott’s nervous twitches and trembling knees as “so cute” and before she knew it they were planning the wedding of their dreams! The marriage took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and thus became a fitting place for us to get warmed up during our shoot. From there we headed over to Victoriaville and took advantage of some wicked lighting in the parcade staircase… I’d always wanted to shoot there and they were totally up for anything. Several goofy shots ensued and I could not help but include them as it illustrates how quirky and fun their relationship with each other is. By contrast, we also took some very poignant images of their sweet little girl, Ryalie. She completely charmed me, that one! Very easy to see why this threesome is a tightly-knit family.

Enjoy your sneak peek, Kerri-Ann! And may the bear hugs, music and dreaming of Ireland continue to inspire you both. Thank you for allowing us this glimpse into your beautiful family! –xo Alvi, Sam + Melissa

Waiting for those metaphorical butterflies. {Chantell + Jeremy’s E-session}

Butterflies. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about! The kind you get deep in the core of your stomach when anticipation is nearly killing you. Butterflies. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about! The kind you get deep in the core of your stomach when anticipation is nearly killing you. The kind that cannot be suppressed when walking down the aisle, arm in arm with your father… eagerly awaiting the reaction on your groom’s face. Chantell cannot wait for these particular butterflies! And earlier this Fall she had a chance to practice during her engagement session with hubby-to-be Jeremey {affectionately known to Chantell as *Jerry Berry*}.

Chantell + Jeremy will be married October 15th, 2011 in Jeremy’s grandmother’s church, St. Michael’s and All Angels {a special tribute to her}. To say they are excited would be the understatement of the year! Our radiant couple first met at the most unlikely of places: Fabutan and Future Shop. According to Chantell, she thought there was no way she’d ever go out with the likes of him! But Cupid got the better of her and also managed to ratchet up the chemistry on that very first date: she was toast. The crazy chemistry they shared, the bond they developed right away could mean only one thing: they were stuck together forever! And so for Jeremy, a man who could not live without fishing and his Boston Bruins, he now had one other obsession to add to the list… one he wasn’t ever letting get away.

Enjoy your sneak peek, guys. We are as stoked as you are for the Big Day to arrive. Well past the one year mark, now!!! All the best and Merry Christmas! –xo Alvi, Sam, Melissa

Kaisa + Kevin’s decade-long love story.

We know you’re possibly growing weary of our chronic {and oh-so-effusive!} giddiness over posting each of our wedding couples, but really, we just can’t help it. We surrender already! Case in point: Kaisa + Kevin. Two of the kindest, most sincere individuals to grace our camera lenses this year. You know that kind of inner beauty that radiates? Yup. They’ve got that in spades. Here’s their story.

Kaisa + Kevin, both originally from Thunder Bay now living in Edmonton, approached us about 18 months ago. When we first spoke I was secretly crossing fingers and toes that all would go well because they just sounded like the nicest people on the planet. And by nice, I also mean non-stressed and excited. Needless to say when it was all systems a-go we were pretty stoked!

Kaisa is the youngest of four sisters and had the great fortune of being introduced to Kevin in their adolescent years while he worked at the Gap. Her sister Leena set out on a mission to play match-maker when Kaisa was clearly smitten upon first sight. Time passed, lunch dates with mutual pals at Mcdonald’s ensued and {finally} Kevin mustered up the nerve to officially make Kaisa his girlfriend. It was October 29th, 2000. Since that time he has had to work very hard to prove himself to Kaisa’s protective father {especially with her being the baby of the family!}; it took many a fishing trip and lots of work around the house to demonstrate his worthiness!

Over the past ten years K + K have been through all the challenges young couples face. Break-ups, getting-back-together, more break-ups. Yet they always seemed to find their way back to each other. Fast forward to 2007 while Kevin was in Calgary for school, he came home to TBay for a visit and the two of them made what has been their most strategic {and possibly gutsy!} decision to date: to drive across the country and move to Edmonton together. No money, no job, no place to live…. nothing but a whole lotta love!

But back to their Big Day. And what an incredible day it was… complete with the coolest prop we’ve had to date: Kevin’s parent’s 1965 classic Mustang, fully restored and buffed! This was the same car his mom and dad were married in… if that’s not a fitting and honourable symbol I don’t know what is! In preparation for their actual wedding shoot I did quite a bit of scouting {which loosely translates to: getting lost//more driving//knocking on doors//and asking very kind farmers if we could kindly make use of their stunning property}. I stumbled upon this incredible, idyllic setting that was rich with texture and rotting woods and thought to myself that it would be the most killer backdrop for their vintage-feeling photo session. I think you will see what I mean when you view their images.

But that’s probably enough text for one night…. please enjoy this sneak peek and our heartfelt congratulations go out to you, Kaisa + Kevin. One final note: it meant the world to me when my phone rang at 1:00 am as I was walking up the stairs in my house to call it a day. It was our happy couple… calling to express their gratitude. This little gesture has stuck with me and meant so much! –xo Alvis, Sam, Melissa, Jeremy

Most of us fear the dreaded Monday. The word *manic* seems to come to mind (at least in our world!). But for Kathleen + Cody there was nothing but blissful anticipation happening on Monday, September 20th. You see, in their world a marriage was taking place.

If you don’t have the pleasure of knowing Kathleen personally, we can attest that this is one amazing woman. In addition to being supermom to Mariah (aged 4) and Colton (age 1), Kat works full-time as a nurse and also managed to plan an incredibly beautiful, intimate wedding at the White Fox Inn… all while juggling the everyday curveballs life throws at us. September 20th was also remarkable as in true multi-tasking fashion, it happened to be her 24th birthday {which, if you ask us, is a great strategy for ensuring those important dates are less at risk for being forgotten!}.

Kat + Cody’s wedding had all the right ingredients to make for perfect picture taking: a beautiful bride, mischievious and adorable scene-stealing flower girls, a groom who is clearly ga-ga {and whose mother melted us with her wistful expressions}, nervous jitters, and lest we forget, killer shoes! So, without any further ado, we’ll let the images tell the story themselves. To the happy couple: we wish you a lifetime of continued happiness and we will eagerly await the arrival of your new little girl this Spring. God bless! –xo, Alvis, Sam + Melissa

We wanted to post a sneak-peek of the SNEAK PEEK from this wedding we shot last weekend {thank you, Autumn + Chris…your real turn will be coming up in a few weeks}. Autumn’s dress, lovingly hand-made by her mother, inspired the look, tone and feel of these images. And we are posting them to inspire you.

Your day is coming… Please visit us at this year’s Wedding Wishes Show; next Sunday, November 7th from 11:30 am until 4:30 pm. We’re excited to hear your plans! Look for us at booth #40. –The Bliss Team {Alvis, Sam, Melissa}

How do you know when it’s really love? How about this: getting in your car and zipping on over to Ignace for the chance to spend just one night with the man you love. Or this? Realizing you’re smitten and it’s only date #3. For Jessica + Brad there’s just no questioning. It’s love. Plain + simple.

Their beautiful September 10th wedding rolled around with nary a glitch {quite impressive when you consider their engagement was a succinct six months… no time for stress! Just efficient decision making!} As usual we get excited with each of our client couples… but for this specific wedding we were über eager. To start, Brad is a firefighter and managed to convince his superiors that incorporating the fire engine into their wedding photos would be nothing short of genius. And it totally was! These are smokin’ hot photos; and Jess — you deserve some major kudos for throwing away the shyness and just going with the flow. There are very few brides — we believe — that would lie across the bumper of a fire truck on their actual wedding day. And given that this is one fun-loving couple whose list of fave things to do together includes fishing and skate skiing, we knew the day would be full of adventure. In fact, the central theme of their Nor’Wester Resort wedding was *fun*.

So in the spirit of keeping things to the point {just like Jess will attest her loving Brad does}, we’re gonna cut to the chase and post these images. Rave reviews go to Maggie at Maggie’s Magical Occasions for creating a dramatic and elegant backdrop that punched out splashes of bright pink from her black and white colour scheme; and to Jessica + Brad’s wedding party of 10: you guys seriously made the day. It’s easy to see why those friendships are so important to you. Thanks for all your patience guys, and we know you know this already, but huge heartfelt thanks for having chosen Bliss. We know there are lots of fantastic photogs to choose from; but we consider it a distinct privilege when clients pick us. Enjoy this sneak peek! –xo from Alvis, Sam + Melissa

Alli: Omg I LOVE them! Alvis - these are gorgeous and you're an amazing photographer - we had so much fun that day - can't wait to see more from Jess! 10.29.2010

Sister of the Bride: LOVE them! The beauty of the day was captured wonderfully...not that that would be hard to do with these two! Great pics!! 10.29.2010

Jess and Brad: Alvis, once again you did a fabulous job! We love love LOVE the pics!! I cannot wait to see all the rest! Thanks to you and Sam for everything, you are an amazing team to work with. 10.30.2010

Bethanie adore Marty. Marty liebt Bethanie. Her roots are French. His are German. And this cosmopolitan couple is heading to the Dominican Republic in January to seal the deal, taking Bliss with them {so excited!}. But let’s just set the stage and give you some of our own insight on these two crazy {CRAZY} lovebirds!

Sam says she remembers for years not understanding why someone as amazing as Bethanie was *single*. Bethanie chalked it up to a string of bad luck and high standards {fortunately for Marty!}. But Sam, she literally just didn’t get it. Bethanie was a girl who had it all: brains/beauty/intellect/sharp wit/drive. What was the dealio?? Where were all the good Thunder Bay men?? And then one innocent day while working at her then Confederation College job {no doubt planning something} she fortuitously connected with Marty, a film student. And yes, the rest is history.

But there’s even more depth to this rad couple that we’d like to share. You see, for those of you who are newly engaged and don’t yet know Bethanie Foster of You’re Invited Certified Event Consulting… you really need to give your head a shake. This woman can plan the dickens out of any event and within any budget! She will organize, visualize, stylize, and idealize your Big Day. We’ve had many of Bethanie’s clients referred to us over the years {you rock!} and when she asked if we’d like to take a crack at her Destination Wedding we could not refuse. Taking place this January at the elegant Punta Cana Colonial Majestic Palace, it represents a huge slice of excitement in the middle of our freezing cold weather {and slow season}. Not to mention photographic nirvana.

And what can we say about Marty? Well, we know him quite well, too. He’s been a key member of the Bliss team during our cinematography shoots for those clients who had our Fusion package. This guy can roll with any punch thrown his way {hey Marty, could you lighten up a bit??? You really need to just loosen up.}. His work is captivating and authentic which is one reason we love him so much. Nowadays he and Bethanie spend their days enjoying the first big purchase they made together: their new home, and in the downtime, we suspect that there’s just a little bit of planning going on. Bethanie, you come by it honestly!

Enjoy this sneak peek from your Engagement session… thanks for giving us such breadth of character to work with! And let me just remind you that we are VERY excited about January. –xo Alvi, Sam + Melissa

One guy. One girl. Effusive beauty. So much love and laughter. The right stuff! We’re not entirely sure how it happens here at Bliss; but it seems that every wedding couple we’ve had the honour to represent is blessed with *all the right stuff*. Naturally we’re not just talking looks.

Enter Katie + Craig Version 2.0. Our regular blog followers will remember their cliff-jumping, turtle-snapping, roof-climbing, boat-maneuvering engagement session. {If you missed it, you really ought to scroll back a few blogs ago to get a glimpse of their zest for each other and life.} This was one wedding we were dying to blog! Kate put her heart and soul into every charming little touch at their Stepstone ceremony and reception. From the Sweet Tooth Booth to the glittering array of masks and wigs available for glamour shots behind the hanging empty frames; every square foot had her signature on it.

Kate + Craig, looks like your wish was granted. Your greatest desire for this wedding was to “have everyone you cared about in one place to celebrate and have a few good laughs with.” Mission accomplished, indeed. Thank you for letting us share these magic moments with you… and hopefully you enjoy this sneak peek summation of the day’s festivities! Since we know that you guys are “go big or go home” peeps, we can only imagine where life will take you next! Here’s to a lifetime of adventure + love. –Alvis, Sam + Melissa
