Right away we at Bliss apologize for what is about to be an abundant overuse of soccer metaphors. We simply cannot help ourselves and trust that in our shoes.. er, cleats, you would do the same.

Barb, our blonde, athletic beauty — whose face will be familiar to anyone who works out regularly at the Canada Games Complex — took only a small amount of convincing to go out with Wilson; our dashing, Brazilian Captain of the Thunder Bay Chill. Perhaps it was his boyish good looks… perhaps it was the way in which he easily charmed the shyest of little kids enrolled in the Chill soccer program… or maybe it was the way he helped lead his team to an outstanding North America championship just a few years ago. Whatever it was, he cast a spell on Barb and she fell hard and fast. And so they opted to kick-off the their journey together with two international weddings this year: one right here in Thunder Bay, and the other at the end of soccer season this summer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

But what is love without a little drama, eh? In the blink of an eye their wedding was nearly offside, as immigration teetered on the edge of deporting poor Wilson around Christmas time. Seems that an incorrectly issued visa nearly sent him packing. Guess he was out of bounds {such foul play, no?}. Thankfully that all got sorted out and the plans continued for what turned out to be one memorable, rocker of a wedding! Guests from as far away as Australia and France, along with a sizable posse from Brazil {slightly disenfranchised with our frigid weather!} crossed borders and flew in for this very special day. Truly, in all the weddings we’ve shot over the past 6 years, we’ve never witnessed such an impressive show on the dance floor ever. I mean, really. Really! There were moves that we’ve quite literally not seen before. Pra caramba!

Barb + Wilson, we hope you enjoy this sneak peek of imagery from your wonderfully, action-packed wedding day. We look forward to compiling your highlight movie and hope to scrounge enough points to get down to Brazil for “round two” of your marriage celebration. {Naturally this is a pipe-dream… but hey, we know people in Brazil!}

Special shout-out to Benoit for his cinematography prowess, the fine folks at Chapples Park for allowing us exclusive entry behind the scenes and once again to Miranda of the Flower Shed and Maggie of Maggie’s Magicals for outdoing themselves yet again with breathtaking decor and stunning, punchy flowers.

Looking for love? Head over to Flora St, Ottawa.

It’s strangely familiar to write a post about a girl from Thunder Bay and a guy from Sudbury whose life paths direct them to Ottawa where they ultimately find love. If we didn’t know better, this might well be our little love story. But insert the importance of Flora St, and all of a sudden we are back to our recently wedded couple: Sandra + Chad.

You see these two crazy (Crazy!) lovebirds and their closest roomies all managed to find love on Flora St in Ottawa many moons ago. Unbelievable to think that Chad and all his buddies living in one house on Flora could find their precise soulmates in Sandra and all her roommates living in a neighbouring house on the same street. I’m telling you people, if you haven’t found love, apparently it’s boundless and ripe for the picking on the beautifully vintage Flora St., downtown Ottawa.

Sandra and Chad were officially hitched before a capacity crowd of adoring fans this past Saturday, May 1st. Putting their hockey differences aside (she’s a Sens fan; he prefers Philly), they shared in an incredible day that offered twists and breezy turns at the top of every hour. From an impromptu hockey game with the groomsmen (where even Mom got in on the action and finally had a chance to take her best shot at Chat <groan>) to showing off acrobatic air guitar skills on the trampoline; our camera was eating it all up enthusiastically. Because they are such avid hockey fans, we thought it would be nifty to get access to the Fort William Gardens for their photo shoot. And so we did, despite the Multi-cultural Festival… Waiting around for the clearance to head up to the stands resulted in some pretty rad (and, er…  unconventional?) images taken in the back stairwell (yes, we know we love stairwells).

We want to give a huge shout-out to our friends at the Flower Shed (go Miranda, go!) and Maggie’s Magicals (woot, woot!). The Victoria Inn ballroom glittered. It was elegant, dramatic and romantic. Sandra + Chad, your life together is off to a beautiful start, and we hope you enjoy this brief Sneak Peek post. We will post more of the poignant ceremony and family shots in the coming days; for now we couldn’t resist putting up this smattering. I personally hope that you and your wedding party had as much fun as these images seem to project (let’s just say your wedding offered me many firsts!). It was indeed quite the day! Congratulations; Sam and I wish you all the best and stay tuned for more.

Ian Benninghaus: Another great shoot Alvis. The urinal series is absolutely priceless. 05.05.2010

Emma Brett: I was just going to say the same thing...those urinal shots are bloody hilarious!!! I see what you mean about 'firsts'! 05.05.2010

Eric Parent: Great photos Alvy. I totally understand what you meant at the wedding when you were talking about shooting in new styles. These definitely aren't the typical antiquated shots that you typically see. You definitely captured the personality and attitude of everyone in the wedding party. I wish you the best in the future my boy. 05.06.2010
